Live at City Winery-UAES Event Review

To even try to understand what’s taking place in Chicago’s music scene and organizing community you have to be aware of the transformative things taking place here. So many innovators, artists, community leaders, and curators are rising to the challenge to create a safer Chicago that shows the world that this city is not only the mecca of creation, but it’s truly one of the most beautiful spaces in the world. Goalden Chyld’s journey with creating the unity movement in our city through his organizing and his creative efforts have been inspiring to so many. He has had an incredible year helping lead the new Chicago wave and continuing to help create more collaboration and unity in the scene/industry. Whether it’s being in the Chicago Reader newspaper, or doing freestyles with the legendary Statik Selectah, or being added to murals in the englewood community that’s highlighting some of the most talented artists the city has to offer. Goalden Chyld and his team having a concert at the city winery just made sense. Rumor is that GC might be going on tour very soon and it makes so much sense. His debut album “War Cry” truly has ignited so much conversation around how the genre of drill music is being looked at and the violence in Chicago. GC is challenging all of that with his music and he is making a lot of folks notice..

His album “War Cry” is challenging what is considered quality music that uplifts the community and creates a positive impact. No artist to this point has been able to take the art form of drill music and create a new sound that can only be understood if you want the city of Chicago to be a different place for future generations. Even with his album charting number three on the itunes hip-hop charts and having been recently co signed by Snoop Dogg by his interview with J Mane and having been mentioned by Ewol Samo on his recent no jumper interview GC is not letting up for anything when it comes to making sure all know about his community efforts and the unity movement. GC’s music and work is helping our city understand what does it mean to really collaborate with each other and support each others efforts. To keep it simple, the Chicago new wave taking place wouldn’t be what it is without GC’s efforts..

The evening started with some amazing DJ selected vibes from Hakim Dough as the sold out event began to fill up quickly because everyone was so excited to see Goalden Chyld do his thing. The legendary Bo Deal came out to get the audiences energies up and talk about his cinema efforts and how well they are going, but even more importantly how the city must come together to continue pushing for peace and unity. The messages were well received as the legendary poet K. Love who has worked with individuals like Mary J. Blige and Taraji P. Henson took the stage and gave some incredible poems that got the audience very relaxed and ready for the rest of the evening..

From there the legend Rhymefest took to the stage and gave the audience a powerful performance and reminded everyone about his journey with CPS and how important it is to have your voice heard to get more individuals involved that want better for the cities school system. K.Love once again took the stage and gave the audience another powerful poem that had everyone prepared for Goalden Chyld to take the stage..

With one more warm hearted introduction from Bo Deal Goalden Chyld took the stage and did not disappoint at all. With three very curated transitions from his and his team each record performed made the audience get charged up and give GC a very powerful encore. With documentary clips from Eye of the trenches showing a rare conversation with GC and Larry Hoover Jr.speaking on community and the album “War Cry” and a surprise visit from the legendary Chairman Fred Hampton Jr. the evening was truly a glimpse into what Goalden Chyld has been up to, who he has been building with, and how he has been evolving as an artist and human being..

With a new record out with his brother Tyre Hakim & a possible tour right around the corner Goalden Chyld is very focused on continuing building on his motion and he’s not slowing down at all. Take a listen to the new record and look at more of the photos below..
