Cake-UAES Song Review
East Side Chicago rapper RecoeChi released his second single in 2024 titled “Cake” on Oct 29, adding steam to what is starting to look like a force to be reckoned with in the Chicago hip-hop scene/industry.
Produced by Renzell.Wav, RecoeChi effortlessly floats on the soft drums, chimes, and melodic keys, showing how, between his breath control, wit for rhyme schemes, and out-of-the-box creativity finding different cadences to rap with, one could easily measure him as the most talented rapper coming up in Chicago right now.
“Cake” almost feels like a lyrical exercise – practice. His confidence and control of the pocket are pro-level and the fact that he can make an actual song, too, means it’s going to get spooky if his team can package and market an entire project from him.
Here are a few of my favorite bars from the track and make you check out the video, which was shot and edited by the WZRD and Reinvented Pictures.
“Keep it balanced, nigga, lucky number seven
I stay polished bitch, you know with pimppin steppin' …
Know the judge convicted but I wasn’t selling,
Devil almost caught me, but my soul deflected...
Got an interception.”
It’s why RecoeChi is fastly ascending in the Chicago hip-hop scene. You might have seen him on iLLANOiZE Radio back in September 2023, where he showcased his storytelling skills with a freestyle over Notorious B.I.G's "Somebody's Gotta Die.”
Or you might have seen him on SWAY’S UNIVERSE in May 2023, where he discussed community building, & shouted out Healthy Hood before kicking a freestyle.
RecoeChi’s also collaborated with other Chicago talent that you might know, like when he connected with Stock Marley for “Paula Schultz” last year, which, honestly, was one of the hottest songs in 2023 and sits at an impressive 1.7k views on YouTube.
Or it could be possible that you have not heard of him at all, as the John Monopoly discovery is fairly new in the rap game. “Cake” is his first single for the esteemed Closed Sessions label and he has no full-length projects on any DSPs.
Whether this is the first time you have ever heard from him or you are very familiar with his game, there is much promise for RecoeChi and, after hearing him rap, makes sense why a legendary music industry icon like John Monopoly would invest his time in him.
