The Precursor-UAES EP Review

Ju-Blick has had a very important year creatively that will shed light on a huge part of the city and the music scene/industry very soon. The Chatham native has already been known for having powerful flows so much so that many thought that Blick was an already made artist in the industry, even though he is just stepping into music full time. With many already excited to see Blick’s success and hear more of his music there have been many eyes on him lately. He has been very strategic with who he collaborates with because of this reason. Blick has a very passionate love for the pioneers that make up the Chicago sound, because of this his love for studying the hip-hop greats such as Tupac & Biggie is very important to him..

Blick is very focused on making sure the history of where he comes from music wise and hood wise is acknowledged as he evolves in his artistry. To understand why Ju-Blick is such a unique emcee you have to know some of Blick’s story and understand this is all something that did not have to happen. Two years ago Ju-Blick was shot multiple times in the Burnside community of the city and had to not only relearn how to walk, but it changed him forever. The artist since then has been impressing the city and the world with his artistry and he’s only just getting started. So him having the year he has had for 2024 is really incredible to see. He has been building with some of the most respected in the city, individuals like GQ the Teacha, Waterr, Hittz, Panamera P and so many more curators and individuals that truly believe in the future of the city. Even more so he has been building with platforms like “Live From The Living Room”, and determined radio, and with just being featured on the Leagueboii project by the late iamsmylez Blick has been making his own motion one day at a time. This new project is example of that..

“The Precursor” which is defined as “A person or thing that comes before another of the same kind; a forerunner”, is in this case a 6 track EP that has reflective bar play, haunting harmonies, stand alone skits, eerie melodies, unique production, and phenomenal song structure. Each record is very revealing of the passion and care Blick takes to make sure you can hear each verse he creates. You can feel the melancholy and the need to learn more about this life, while you can also hear the determination and synergy Blick has throughout the entire project..

Our favorite records to play in the office are “Memories”, “Stay Dangerous”, & “Substance”. Take a listen and let us know what you think..

And catch Ju-Blick and the artist Mira Raven at #inth3LAND and Englewood Open Mic, on Nov 23rd 2024..
