Pivot Gang Returns with“Who At The Door” - uaes Song review
Westside music collective, Pivot Gang, is back? At least that seems to be the case after the rap group, compiling of, Joseph Chillams, Saba, Frsh Waters, daedaePIVOT and MFnMelo, released their first single, “Who At The Door,” as a rap group since their heralded 2019 debut You Can’t Sit With Us this past October 3rd.
The record sounds fresh, starting the chorus:
It’s a gang of n***** outside,
I feel like Malcom X
Running plays like I’m Al-Qaeda inside of the US
Who At the door?
Shawty got me in the bed like house arrest,
Who At the door?
Had to hit it doggy-style like DMX
Frsh Waters, MFnMelo and the rest of the cast, keeps up the theme, with electric bars that matches the up-tempo pace of the record.
Inarguably the best rap crew in Chicago, the drop confirms the band’s subtle suggestions over the past year: another Pivot Gang album is on the way.
While individually, Pivot Gang members have been busy, dropping singles and other substantial projects – Frsh Waters and MFnMelo collabed on “Champion” last month, Joseph Chilliams had a very eventful 2023, dropping several singles, including “Robert Downing” with another up and coming Chicago hip-hop rapper Chris Patrick, and that does not include, Saba celebrating the ten-year anniversary of his Comfort Zone album this month at Lincoln Hall – the general public has not seen or hard from them as a group since the group was seen at T.I.P. (Teens In the Park) in August and at Vocalo's Summer Finale September 20. That kind of makes this drop a big deal.
While the group has not confirmed the release date of their sophomore group album, this single is a positive sign not only that they still got it, but that the body of work will be coming soon.
