Rufus Sims gives high level story-telling w/ new release “ILL Dirty Rufus”
Rufus Sims is one of those emcees that was built from the very foundations of hip-hop. His place in The New Chicago Wave is so important because he has been present during the blog era and even before. If you know anything about Sims he is not to be played with. His work with legendary videographer APJ Films of The Purple Box is widely known, and he has been very focused on letting the world know what he’s capable of. He is highly respected for his blunt and gritty bars. His wordplay is so revealing of the trenches that the world loves to talk about when it comes to Chicago, but they will never come here. Sims’s music challenges anyone that doesn’t believe in real bar play to explain why. Because that’s the only way Sims can flow, simply put. No one is touching Rufus Sims. His music is true black excellence and history. Seriously, listen to his records, he’s a walking history lesson on Chicago’s past, present, and future when it comes to talking about the trenches. This new release is proof of that..
“ILL Dirty Rufus” is a sixteen record project that has some of the most lethal and structured story telling heard so far for 2025. With incredible production coming from Master ILL, and features coming from Malia Sims, Kiyah Sims, ILLANOIZE Radio, Asun Eastwood, Armaniii FrnDa Chiii, Lil Keisha, Pirate Reem, Vic Spencer, Dialect Tre, IAMGAWD, and so many amazing others this project is letting it be known how Sims is coming for the rest of the year, and from what we heard he’s just getting started..
Our favorite records to play in the office are “Fill the Blank ft Dialect Tre & IAMGAWD”, “Real Life ft Vic Spencer & Grea8Gawd”, “Broke ft Philmore Greene”, & “Fah ft The Lil People”. Take a listen and let us know what you think..
