uaes album review: war cry

Chicago has been going through a powerful metamorphosis in the past three years when it comes to our music and organizing communities. Since 2020 the scene here has seen a lot of gate keepers and harmful systems step down from their positions of power because the youth of our city have demanded more of the platforms we look to when it comes to bringing a true change to our city and uplifting our cultural accomplishments.

Because of that there has been a strong focus on the artists and innovators that have always been in the community paving the way with their art and commitment to the south and west sides of Chicago. However these individuals have always been more focused on creating true change in our communities while that work shows up in the art and music our city is able to produce. We have mentioned before how artists like Recoechi, Freddie Old Soul, Damon Williams, Allen The Official, and so many others in our city are doing this work and being very vocal about it. Goalden Chyld is not only leading this new wave in this city, but his album is truly embodying the needed change the future of our city needs..

To describe who Goalden Chyld really is is to embrace what Chicago could look like with peaceful streets. He has been cosigned by some of hip-hop’s absolute best and our culture’s most iconic innovators. But unless you have seen him in person or on social media you wouldn’t know that he is in the streets of our city every single day providing help and resources to the people of Chicago. Most of the time dressed in suits with bow ties and equipped with knowledge from his comrades GC moves with a mentality that challenges anyone that has ever benefited from the violence that comes from Chicago..

What he speaks on is not only real testimony of the work he does but it is also an ask to the world to stand against police brutality and negativity. His album pushes the question of what if our communities had all of the resources we need to have generational wealth for black and brown folks? GC challenges the entire foundation of what our city can and will be if community is the priority. “War Cry” is a full length movie in the form of an album that talks about determination, discipline of one’s self, the power of boundaries, and the ability to have faith in spirit that true change can come to Chicago..

There are no features on this body of work but we believe that is to bring more light to the bars that carry a heavy but necessary message. The producers who contributed to this album not only are incredible and have huge accomplishments of their own but they all gave GC a sound that could be described as conscious drill or woke music, but it’s a lot more to it than that. GC’s lyrics are so ear piercing but because he is really speaking on true events somehow that makes his story telling even more haunting and yet inspiring at the same time..

This album just dropped and it is already #3 on iTunes hip-hop charts world wide. Even our creative director ThoughtPoet has been quoted calling GC the “Drill Malcolm X”. This body of work is truly impacting not just the city of Chicago but everyone that has a wish for a better life for themselves & their love ones..

Our favorite records to play in the office are “Gifted”, “Managing a Lot”,“Soldier”,“Righteous Stepper”, & “Whatever it Takes”. Take a listen and let us know what you think..

We also got the chance to attend GC’S album listening party held at Healthy Hood, where he got in person co-signs from Chicago legends like historian Dilla Thomas, and organizer Englewood Barbie. Take a look at the photos below..
