‘Til Death Do We Ball-UAES Album Review
Sonny is truly his own entity, what we mean by that is he’s apart of the new Chicago wave taking over not only because he has been one of the most consistent and prominent artists performing like he does. But his organizing efforts in the city are truly changing how we look at Chicago in the art community as well. We truly can’t get enough of this emcee’s flow and his powerful story-telling. To keep it simple, ain’t no one touching Sonny and what he’s capable of..
“‘Til Death Do We Ball” is a brilliantly packaged body of sounds that show Sonny’s ability to fuse beautiful & cinematic jazz and drill sounds with hip-hop barplay and song structure that puts this project in a different category all together for us. But what sets this artist apart from many of his peers is his ability to have the most wittiest of verses that really show off his ability to flow on extremely different types of production and it all makes sense. You can see the images he reflects on very concise and descriptive as he shares his world in Chicago that’s just unique and powerful..
Records like “Product” & “Pick Ya Pain” are super reflective of Sonny’s lyrical ability that has garnered him so much respect already as an emcee and artist. While records like “Loyalty” ft Brooklyn Skye, “Smoke & Mirrors” ft Dreamer Isioma & Senite & “Time Again” focus on Sonny’s inspirations and fears about being dedicated to a artform where he’s not sure he will get his flowers, but he pushes on anyway because of his love for the artform in it’s entirety..
Our favorite records to play in the office are “AP’s & Richard Milles”,"Nobody” ft Ine’a J, and “Time Again” & “Product”..
Take a listen to this amazing album and let us know what you think..
