Brittney Carter & Gold Haze Deliver “Greatness”
Brittney Carter continues her impressive run of singles, this time linking with a fellow hot and up-and-coming producer, Gold Haze, for the record “Greatness.”
You get exactly what you expect when you see Brittney Carter and Gold Haze on the cover of a song: precise production from Haze, featuring his patterned air-tight drum pocket, this time implementing soulful horns, and the wordsmith herself, Brittney, who caught the holy ghost, crooning a catchy hook, not to mention getting real comfy with her flow, matching Haze’s drum kit seamlessly.
But what makes this song great is what, in my opinion, makes Brittney Carter one of, if not, the number one female talent in Chicago: her storytelling and relatable bars, done, in the most salt-to-earth fashion.
Take this verse for example:
“I ain’t afraid to say I cry some days.
Hard to figure out my why some days.
I ain’t afraid to say I lost hope
Shit, I’m human
I ain’t ashamed to say I still smoke to cope with how I’m doing”
This will be Carter’s third single of the year following “For Free,” which she dropped in May, and “One of Them Nights” featuring another promising Chicago talent, Kayo in August. Carter also appeared on Slum Villages’ F.U.N album on the opening song “Welcome.” Yes, That Slum Village.
With this much traction, one could assume Carter may be gearing up for a release, being that her last full-length project (As I Am) was back in 2020.
What is clear, is that you have to mention Brittney Carter when it comes to artists in Chicago that could be next to blow up ever since music legend Missy Elliott retweeted one of her earlier freestyles and she went viral. Since then, she’s been on a tear, from being featured in major publications to her look from Top Dawg Entertainment, and that does not even cover the co-signs from poet and organizer Kwynology, DJ Lena Bandz Bekoe, and many, many more.
What’s next for the Carter is to be seen, but, from the looks, it could be something special.
